How it works
A doctor's note in three steps
Many employers and schools in Ontario ask for a medical note when you miss time due to illness. If you're unwell, the last thing you need is a waiting room. With Doctor Fran, a licensed Ontario physician assesses you over the phone and, where clinically appropriate, issues a sick note you can present to your employer or school.
Step 01
Request a sick note
Open the app, choose a sick note consultation, describe your illness, and pay by card.
Step 02
Speak with a physician
A licensed Ontario physician calls you to assess your condition — typically the same day.
Step 03
Receive your note
If the physician determines a note is appropriate, you'll receive your sick note electronically.
Good to know
Sick notes are issued at the physician's discretion
A sick note is a medical document. It's issued only after a physician has assessed you and determined that a note is clinically appropriate — booking a consultation does not guarantee a note. This is what makes a Doctor Fran sick note credible: it comes from a physician licensed in Ontario and registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
One flat fee of $82 — the consultation and the note, with no extra document charge and no subscription
Notes for work, school, college, or university absences
Issued by a CPSO-registered Ontario physician after a phone assessment
Note: sick notes are generally not covered by OHIP even for insured patients, so the process is the same whether or not you have a health card

A flat $82 CAD — that covers the physician consultation and the note itself. There's no separate document fee and no subscription. Many clinics charge a visit fee plus an extra $20–$50 for the note document; with Doctor Fran the price you see is the full price.
Yes. Sick notes through Doctor Fran are paid by card in the app, so no OHIP or health card is needed. Sick notes are generally an uninsured service in Ontario anyway, meaning even patients with OHIP typically pay for them.
A physician typically calls the same day you book. If a note is appropriate, you'll usually receive it shortly after your consultation.
Notes are issued by physicians licensed in Ontario, the same as a note from a walk-in clinic. Acceptance policies are set by individual employers and schools, so check their requirements if you're unsure.
No. The physician must assess you first and will only issue a note where it's clinically appropriate. This protects the integrity of the note you receive.
